Pfc. Hopper's great sense of humor, devotion to his fellow paratroopers, and his dedication to mission accomplishment set him apart from his peers. He will truly be missed.
    — Lt. Col. Dave Bair, batttalion commander

Hopper died Oct. 30, southeast of Karadah, Iraq, of injuries sustained during a vehicle roll-over. In high school, Hopper swam on the water polo and swim teams. He briefly went to community college in Merced but put his education on hold to enlist in the Army.

    Luke,

The world may not know what it lost on October 30th, but those of us who know and love you sure do. You were my little bro - I love and miss you.

    Luke,
I am crying for you today, and for the wonderful lives we have lost.
I know that you are now in heaven, and God is guarding you. I know that no matter how much I cry, I will never cry enough for you. I wish you can see from heaven how much we appreciate your sacrifice.

As proud of you as I am, this feeling of loss is unbearable. You had too much to live for, too many who wanted to share life with you. Good bye, dear one. I miss you.

Luke always had a great sense of humor and was a ray of sunshine to everyone around him. My heart is heavy for the life he could've lived but it is as it is. Bless your soul and I wish you good energy in your space in time.
