When times get rough, look up in the sky and call me and look up and listen and you'll hear me say, 'Look where I'm at. Do you see me quitting? Don't give up the fight, 'cause I'm your bro, and I'm not a quitter, and neither are you.'
— Lyndon A. Marcus Jr., in a letter his sister received the day the family learned of his death
Marcus dreamed of becoming a recording star. In school he starred in productions of "Fame" and "The Wiz." While in Iraq, he wrote to his sister, asking her to get a school for the arts to send him a pamphlet about its programs.

11 memories of Lyndon

I don't know you and I never met you. When I look at your picture, you remind me of me when I was your age. My heart goes out to you and your family. I thank God for the short time you were here on earth. Your life seemed so promising. I know that if you were here you would probably tell me not to worry. Nonetheless, I thank you for serving our country. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. I pray your family is well and that God's Blessing is upon them always. You will be missed.

I don't know what to say or how to truly express what I feel. Lyndon and I went to middle school and high school together, he was alway a sweet heart there was nothing that he would not do for you. If you needed help he was always the one that would leaned a helping hand, or who you could just talk to for hours on end. Lyndon, from your family and I you will always be our HERO and my love for always and ever. Yours truly.............

Marcus, I still remember the day we went to the commander if only he said yes, you was a great soldier, the best that I have ever lead, you songs are always played to remind me the dedication and sacrifice you have made for freedom. You are a true Cavalry soldier and was glad to be your Platoon Sergeant.

Anson and his family were my next door neighbors. He was the first person to greet my family on the first day of moving in.

Shortly there after with regular occurance, Anson would greet me with a, "Hello Dan" as I backed my car into the driveway.

Anson and my son, Taylor, became fast friends despite Anson being 5 years older. I can remember the two of them running around the house battling each other with toy light-sabers and Power Ranger weapons and Anson was 14!

During the summer before his family moved to the West Long Beach, Anson accompanied my family on our summer roadtrip to visit as many national parks as we can in 9 days. Anson picked-up the nickname Emelda for the amount of clothes and shoes he brought with him on a camping trip. He seemed to change clothes every hour and never wore the same thing twice. He had style.

...and personality. I thought Anson's adoption of my family and attendance to family get-togethers was unique. That is until I heard similar stories at his memorial. Numerous families would share this common experience, Anson would pay a visit to their house and make himself a member of the family. He was very special.

After his family moved, Anson would still regularly stop by when he would visit with his best friend, Roger, who still lived in the neighborhood. The last time I saw him, he stopped by the house to tell me that he was starting his music career. If you've heard his CD, you know he could sing.

Before joining the Army he stopped by one more time and visited with Taylor to tell him about his plans. I wasn't home and I didn't learn until sometime later that he did.

This young man was truly a gift to my family and the world. Anson's personality, his smile, his maturity & respect, his curiousity & perspective and his love & care for friends and family were a bright light on 60th Street and through-out North Long Beach. He is truly missed and very much remembered.

Ancon was a truely special person. He was always so sweet and really did have an amazing voice. He was my brothers best friend and was more than just a friend to us but a part of our family. We always like to tell him that he was an honorary Mexican as he was like a brother to us. As all have said; he was very talented. He was the type of person who you would have seen with a real chance of winning on American Idol. He had the personality and a beautiful voice. We miss you and you are forever in our hearts. Until we meet again one day in heaven...Love always.

I went to basic with Marcus and later went to Vilseck with him and a few others as well, but a different platoon. The kid was magical, it was no secret this kid wanted to be a recording artist and he was extremeely nice and popular among his fellow soldiers. A shot out to Marcus and his memory, this soldier will never forget his sacrifice. RIP soldier.

Anson was such a charming young man a young man that really loved God, I met him in church at a young age that grew into such a respectful young man that had such an awesome crush on my neice when they were kids. I really miss him and still can't believe that such a beautiful person has been taken away from us at such a young age. He was a beautiful individual and I loved his love for life itself. Beautiful beautiful Anson;D
