Heredia was just somebody you wanted to be around, one of those very rare students that you stay in contact with after they graduate.
— Kris Hanna, high school French teacher
Heredia followed her older sister into the Army after high school. She was severely burned while refueling a generator in Baghdad. Her sister, who had left the service, was at her bedside when she was transported to a U.S. hospital. She died two months after the accident.

Rest in the Glory of the Lord, where there is no pain only everlasting Joy.
It's sad to see the young faces of those who have made the supreme sacrifice for our country. 19 was the average age of combat troops in Vietnam. I spent my 19th and 20th birthdays there in 1968 and 1969. God bless you all. Be at peace with your brothers.
Que dios te tenga en sus santa gloria
Her smile is so rich and the price she payed so high. How many of us will remember her as the mother she never got to be, the good wife she surely might have been. We only know her in her uniform and we konw her as a hero just trying to do her job. A bullet or an accident, in uniform it is heroism to which we owe so much. God please receive her with welcome.
We salute you. We thank you. And you will be remembered forever for your ultimate sacrificed.God bless.
What a pretty girl
I don't know you. But thank you for your sacrify...thank you, thank you and thank you. God bless
My daughter is just one month old. Alas that Marisol never had a daughter; alas for her mother and father and friends and family. I wish her soul so very well -- what a sparkle in her eye.
May GOD hold you in his heart. RIP. Heaven has gained an Angel and we have lost a beautiful person.
Your picture stood out from a group photo, which made me want to look further.
I am so sorry for what happened to you. You were so young to have been put into that situation. What a tragedy.
My condolences to your family.
God rest your soul.
Spc Marisol Heredia, she was a woman full of energy and always had a great out look on life. She was a good friend and sister to the unit we both served with in iraq. She has a laundry list of friends that she always stayed in contact with and would go out of the way to make someones day brighter.
She will be dearly missed now as she was when this all happened.
Thank you lil Sister. God keep you safe now..

I feel sorrow, and cry for them when I see such young faces that won't be with their loved ones anymore and their lives are gone, they will not be forgotten by their family and friends. It is an immense sacrifice!
How many more have to died? Have we accomplished anything worth their lives? Our kids died, so others can live free.
Let's pray for all of the ones that are gone, for their families and friends, and for the one that are still out there. God is the only that can help us and them come back where they belong: here with us! God bless this young girl's soul; and the others too!
I feel so sad and felt like I just loss a part of me. Marisol, thank you very much for being brave and I hope your family is coping with such loss. You are a beautiful woman
R.I.P. I WISH I HAD THE DRIVE AND PASSION YOU HAVE TO DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY!! MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOUR FAMILY

U.S. Army Specialist Marisol Heredia was born and raised in El Monte, California. She attended Mountain View High School, where she was a dedicated student interested in French culture and was vice president of the school's French club. She graduated half a year earlier than her class. Out of admiration for her older sister who served in the U.S. Army and the opportunities the armed forces could offer for traveling, she enlisted on July, 2005. She was a member of the U.S. Army's 15th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Calvary Division, which was deployed from Fort Hood, Texas.
On July 18, 2007 a vehicle Specialist Heredia was fueling caught on fire in Baghdad, Iraq. She was evacuated to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, for treatment, but passed away on September 7, 2007 as a result of her injuries.
Legislation introduced by Solis to dedicate the El Monte post office in honor of Specialist Heredia was signed into law on July 15, 2008 (Public Law No: 110-267).

You served in Iraq and at Fort Hood with my husband; but I never had the opportunity to meet you in person. I have come to know you since the accident and your passing. You have changed my life in ways that cannot be measured. Because of you, I have learned not to take things for granted. I have learned to live life in the manner in which you did -- full of courage; full of determination; and with strength. You will continue to live on in the hearts and souls of those that you have left behind.
Eternal rest be granted to you, Marisol, and may the perpetual light shine upon you. May you rest in peace.

......I didn't expect to see you enlist....I didn't expect to see you here....The girl who raved about Morrissey....the creative and individualistic girl....I didn't know you were so brave....I remember your complaints, your whine...Missssss! I wish I could have attended your dedication....I wish........you didn't have one.....I wish I could have said goodbye......when you enlisted.......
I don't know her, but just by seeing her beautiful smile I can tell she was a great and outgoing daughter that her parents and siblings were and are really proud of. As a mother I cannot imagine the pain her parent went through with her lose. She is just one step ahead of us.May GOD have her in his glory. RIP Marisol.
I didn't know Marisol, but I saw her picture in the LA Times...War Hero's. Her pretty face made me want to read about her selfless sacrifice. Thank you to Marisol and all our men and women in uniform. God bless and protect all of you. To Marisol's family...May the supernatural peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. God bless you.
My heart is filled with sadness and then becomes washed away with the joy as I read these words about you Marisol. I did not know you but I know your big sis. I hope you are proud of the work that we do...it is all because of the power and the strength of what you and others gave and sacrificed! We do it for you and because of you! YOU ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN and we will hold your picture up high on Veteran's Day this year in our parade so everyone can see your beautiful soul!
