They had some tea and were getting ready for some firing...the lone ABP [Afghan Border Patrolman] fired at them, instantly killed five, then turned to where the platoon leader and the platoon sergeant were and shot the platoon sergeant.
    — Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell, commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)

Ramsey was among six soldiers shot and killed Nov. 29 by an Afghan border policeman at an observation point near the Pakistani border. The shooter was a lone gunman who fired at five of the six, including Ramsey, from behind as they were gathered together at an observation point in Nangarhar province, according to Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell.

I went to school with Matthew all the way from 1st grade at LCS to junior high to highschool at QHHS. We were good friends in elementary. He was always smiling and laughing. Liked by everyone. One of the few that I actually do remember from grade school. To his parents, wife, baby and friends. I am so sorry for your loss. Remember that he will always be in your hearts and by your side through everyday. Always be proud of him. Smile when you hear his name. A thousand times I'm sorry.
    With Love,
    Anna

Ramsey was one of my recruits in The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Explorer Academy, Class 79. It was my first class as a Drill Instructor, and Ramsey was one of those recruits that you will never forget, this young man was outstanding and always looked out for his fellow classmates, his humor and courage will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to his entire family, partners, and friends. May the Lord provide you with all his strength.

To Mrs. Ramsey, Father and Mother Ramsey:

I'm sorry to read about your love one. Death is not easy especially under the circumstances. It takes a lot of courage for those young men to go and fight other people that they don't even know. Why? The Bible speaks about a time when there will be no more war. You can read that for yourselves in Psalms 46:9. The Bible also, gives us another hope for the future at Revelation 21:3,4 where it talks about there will be no more sickness or dying. Please take care of yourselves and May Jehovah God be with you.

My name is Brittney, Matthews big sister Meghan and I were best friends in Elementary school. Yes he was the little brother who would mess with us at the sleep overs, but he was also kind, caring, loving, strong, sweet, funny beyond words and just could always make us laugh when we had a bad day. Always willing to help and do what was asked. I am still speechless to the news and this hits very close to home. I know he was a great kid who grew into a great man, husband, son, brother, and father. I love you matt, you and your family are always in my heart. thoughts and prayers.. ~Brittney~

He did what less then 1% of our country dose, he joined the Army for that alone I am greatful. Making the ultimate sacrifice for his country is something no one wants to do but he was willing to do it and again i am greatful. I myself am willing to make that same sacrifice. I wish the best for his family and children.

Matthew and me were brothers, best friends, always there for each other, him and his family were there for me when my family wasn't! i will always remember this! i had to move to Florida for a short time, but i made sure that i moved back to Quartz Hill in time for his LA County Sheriff Explorer Graduation. He was the guidon bearer for his Class. an outstanding recruit and explorer, Deputies were and are proud to call him partner, and I am too. I had the awesome privilege to be Matthew's training officer in the explorer program after his graduation. he excelled over his peers with ease. What an amazing man, brother and friend. Matthew and me joined the Army together, he was the main reason why i scored so good on my ASVAB! haha he always was willing to help me study for it. both of us enlisted for the same job's in hope that we could get stationed with each other, but unfortunately that didn't happen. Just a short few hours ago, was around the same time last month on the 29th of NOV that pops called me telling me that we lost Matthew, Never for the rest of my life will i forget that moment, or the tears and pain that i have cried and felt after. It deeply hurts me to know that when i come home on leave from or i ETS from the army, that i won't get to see you bub! But i know your in Heaven, i will always uphold my promise to you, i will look after your wife and your beautiful son and soon to be baby boy due here shortly! i love you with all my heart Matthew Wayne! Rest easy bub
