Everyone sooner or later has to part this world. It makes me proud to know that I left while protecting the United States.
— Michael G. Mihalakis, in a letter he left his parents to be read after his death
Mihalakis had only 17 days remaining in his tour when he was killed in a Humvee accident. He had joined the guard to pay for college. In high school he played lead guitar in a rock band named Stratus.

So young yet so proud! Reminds me of when I wrote my last words but was able to return home with them. I try to remember what I wrote, but I know that I was not as humble as this young man was. May your spirit ride true with the continuing battle! Thank you for your service!
