He couldn't wait to get back home and play with the kids and go have dinner with me. He was beautiful with the kids.
    — Jeannie Hancock, widow

Hancock met his wife at a coffee shop near Ft. Irwin. They married six months later. He took in her two children as if they were his own, and the couple had two others together.

Three memories of Michael S. Hancock

He is my stepdad and he was the greatest person ever. He taught me how to ride my bicycle when I was 7. He always treated me as one of his own children and loved me more than I know. He helped me with my homework and many other things. Although I don't remember much about him, I do remember that he was the kindest person ever and he loved my mom very much. And even though it was 5 and a half years ago, I still miss him terribly. But I know he's with God, so I am at peace knowing I will see him again when this world is done. Well if anyone has ever read this, thank you for everything. God bless.

    Love always,
    Amber

We are a USCG family living in Sitka, AK and I just happened upon the LA Times website, clicked on the fallen war heroes link and here I am reading about your step father, I want you to know that I appreciate your sacrifice and his!

    Summer,
Thank you for your appreciation. It means a lot to know there are people who do appreciate the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers. There are a lot of people who say it is all for no reason. So thank you. :)
