It was a difficult decision for him to join the Army, but at the same time he had no choice. He needed some kind of financial stability for his son, and he wanted his son to be proud of him.

Manibog was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States in 1992. He was working odd jobs and barely making ends meet when he decided to enlist in the Army to provide for his 9-year-old son.
