I am really proud of who he was. He was a man, and he lived life to the fullest, and that's all a dad can ask for.
    — Nicanor Amper III, father

Amper died July 5 in Khowst, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade. Amper was scheduled to retire in December. Sergeant Amper was posthumously promoted to staff sergeant.

    Nicanor's Family and Friends:

I didn't know your dead love one, but I'm sure he was a wonderful person. I would like to give my condolences. The governments of this world are not ruling as they should. In the Bible at Daniel 2:44 it says: "The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, (govenments) and it itself will stand to times indefinite. Peoples of all the earth will be united under one righteous govenment-God's Kingdom. God will fulfill his promises through the second most powerful person in the universe-the resurrected Jesus Christ. Mankind will no longer be governed by human kings, presidents, or politicians. They will be ruled by one King and one govenment-the Kingdom of God. May peace and comfort be with you. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

When Nic would smile, he would light up not just the room, but the entire building. The world will be a dimmer place without him.

Thank you all for your prayers and comforting words. I am so proud of my son Nicanor. It gives me comfort to know that my son is with God. I would like to thank the soldier who was with my son and gave him a kiss on the forehead after he passed on. It gives me comfort to know he was not left along. I want to thank God for the years he let me have Nicanor.

    God bless you my son!
