Ray saved everybody--Iraqis, soldiers, anybody. He didn't care. He even tried to go to the Iraqi hospitals to help people who were wounded.
    — Tylea Fuhrmann, widow, in Associated Press obituary

Fuhrmann enjoyed martial arts and studied aikido in Japan, according to the Associated Press. Inspired by his medic duties in Iraq, he hoped to go to medical school and become a trauma surgeon when he got out.

One memory of Ray M. Fuhrmann II

The best story about Ray is when we were driving on the freeway and a truck flipped over in front of us. He jumped out of the car ignoring the high speed traffic so he could help out the driver. I thought "this guy is something else".
God, I was waiting for his return and thought we would meet again. I regret not giving him a hug last time we saw each other...I'm glad we got to exchange some letters while he was in Iraq. Miss you, Ray.
