When he walked out that door, he walked out whole. He had himself together. He had purpose. He was determined. I wouldn't have taken that from him.
    — Irene Ramirez, mother

Ramirez's father came to the U.S. from El Salvador. He had been a member of a local militia during the civil war there and tried to talk his son out of enlisting. But Ramirez was determined, working two years to retire debts and even removing a small gang tattoo from his hand with scissors.

There is not a moment of time that goes by that Rogelio is not on my mind. He was very eager and excited to help defend and fight for his country, so that we could always enjoy our freedom. He was very proud to be a part of the Marine Corp. With the same courage that he showed, we as a family need to do the same. He will always be loved and never forgotten.

My son Erich was with Rogelio in Iraq, he was injured and evacuted, Rogelio saved Erich and the other Marines that were injured by firing his machine gun at the enemy forces. He is truely a HERO! God bless his family for bringing up such a fine young man.

    I think of him always.

I remember this man when he was a little boy. He wanted to prove to everyone that he was a man. He wanted respect and he wanted everyone in the neighborhood to know that he was fighting for us. In the end, many people did not remember him being a little boy or know that he could be so kind and so funny! Many people never said anything to his mother about her loss. So much of this makes me want to cry because two years later and I am not done crying yet.

Can never forget the day you left, can never forget our brotherly bond, can never forget the sacrifice you so willingly gave. I have always held you in high esteem, through dark times and better times... you were and will always be my foundation, bro. It's sad you never got a chance to see your son, but he will know you and why you did what you had to. He is already proud. Much love to a fallen hero, a fallen brother. see you on the other side.

You were the funniest and definitely the nicest guy I met in the Battalion.
You put out the most effort when it counted.
You made my time a bit easier and helped me make it through the day.
I still think about you from time to time. We'll all see you again eventually.
