I simply got this name from my favorite music genre... and since she is a female, added the sie to the end... even though people assume it's Roxie or Roxy like the brand.
Sabra was stray on our street for approximately two weeks before Animal Control was able to retrieve her. My wife, Terri, and I were the only ones who wanted her. She was released to us on 12 - 23 - 99. An early Christmas gift! At the time, I was reading a book which included mention of a desert cactus plant called SABRA. The description of the plant was "prickly on the outside and soft and mushy on the inside." This phrase aptly described our dog when she came to live with us.
Our doglet is spunky and sweet just like this name.
Found him by chance at the shelter on Freitag (german for Friday) the 13,in a year that had two Freitag the 13.But he is also my best man Friday, when I pretend to be Robinson Crusoe ( Daniel Defoe) in the ocean that is LA. Best dog ever!
I named my dog Lexington because that was the name that best described her as a puppy. Her name also serves as a tribute to the famous Velvet Underground song and to Lexington Avenue in NYC.
Often, she goes by: Lexi, Sexy Lexi (at the dog park), Lexicon, Lexi Pants and when she is in trouble: LEXINGTON!!!
I have had two red Min-pins who each lived to be 15 years old and now have a black and tan 5-month old Min-pin puppy. What a treasure they have all been - such loyalty, intelligence, anddevotion! They were members of our family - incidentally, their names were Cayenne, Pepper, and now Curry (all "spicy" little creatures. Our lives would not have been the same without them.
Our white pit bull, Clare, was found wandering a Wal-Mart parking lot pregnant - not even a year old. We adopted her from a shelter even though we did not want a pit bull. But they had so many! Clare is our 9th dog and by far the most sensitive, emotional, affectionate, and sweet dog we've ever had. If a harsh word is spoken she has a meltdown. Her favorite way to wake me in the morning is to push her ample behind against my door and wag her tail - thump, thump, thump - until I surrender and get up. Our neighbors adore her and pick her up every day to take her with their dogs to play at a local river for several hours. Initially we were wary of adopting a pit bull but now, after 3 years, I am totally commmitted to the breed. Unresponsible owners and the media have ruined the reputation of this breed which is a tragedy. Pit bulls are smart, easy to maintain, seldom bark, and love cuddling, car rides, and kind words. I consider them the perfect dog.
My chihuahua mix is a Tank! He started rolling over everything the minute we brought him home at 6 weeks!
Why did we name our dog Hoku? Well...I was born and raised in Hawaii and always give my dogs Hawaiian names. Our dog is a golden redish brown American Pit Bull Terrier. She is our golden star so we named her Hoku (which means star in Hawaiian).
My husband took me out to dinner for my birthday. He knows I dislike having the waitstaff sing for my birthday, so I was very surprised when I heard them singing "Happy Birthday To You", and coming towards our table. In the third line they sang "Happy Birthday, dear Louie" and ended up at the next table. So, some guy named Louie has a birthday near mine. It was right after that dinner that a little stray mutt wandered into our lives, and we named him after that guy in the restaurant: Louie.
