Arthur Spiegel

Studio Head Born 1885 in Chicago, Ill.

Arthur H. Spiegel was president and principal owner of Spiegel, May, Stern Co., a Chicago furniture mail-order company, and head of the World Film Corp., which he formed in connection with early film pioneer Lewis Selznick.

Spiegel founded the mail-order company when he was 19. At the time of his unexpected death at the age of 31 in 1916, it was one of the largest of its kind in the world. He also was a stockholder and director of Spiegel Furniture Co., headed by his father.

In 1915, Spiegel organized the Equitable Motion Pictures Corp. Later it was consolidated with World Film, and Spiegel became its executive head.

While he was back East, he became ill and died of pneumonia at the Plaza Hotel in New York.
