Chris Berman
Chris Berman, best known for his “back back back back” home run call, joined ESPN in 1979 and has been arguably ESPN’s the best-known personality ever since. He still serves as an anchor on SportsCenter and is the current host of ESPN’s NFL Draft coverage and their Monday Night Football coverage. “He is our most important person,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN’s vice president of production in a retrospective on Berman’s career in 2008. “He is the face of ESPN.”
Berman has been selected the National Sportscaster of the Year six times (1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 2001) by the members of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Assn. The 2010 season will be his 25th consecutive as studio host of "Sunday NFL Countdown," having long surpassed Brent Musburger’s 15-year record in 2001 as the longest-running host of a weekly pro football studio show.
Berman is also known for the use of puns to make nicknames for certain players, as in Bert “Be Home” Blyleven, Brady “Bunch” Anderson, Mike “Enough” Aldrete and Roberto “Remember the” Alomar.
