H.C. Potter was a well-known Hollywood director remembered particularly for comedies such as "Hellzapoppin' " and "Time of Your Life." Potter directed Cary Grant in “Mr. Lucky” and “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House,” and Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire in “The Vernon and Irene Castle Story.”
He attended Yale Drama School.
In 1977, the Directors Guild of America gave Potter its Honorary Lifetime Membership award.
