Jim Hill
Jim Hill went from being a National Football League player to an Emmy Award-winning sportscaster and sports director on Los Angeles' CBS-owned Channel 2.
As a media professional, he picked up awards from the Associated Press, USA Today, Los Angeles Press Club and United Press International. He's been an on-air sports commentator, analyst and reporter in L.A. since 1976, when he launched his first stint with Channel 2. After 11 years, he bounced to a competitor, ABC-backed Channel 7, where he also worked for ABC Sports.
Known for his tailored suits, Hill has worked consistently on weekday evening and late-night sports segments, also covering major events like the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics. He's hosted pay-per-view boxing telecasts on CBS sibling cable channel, Showtime, and he serves as studio host for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Lakers on KCAL-9.
His high visibility on the L.A. sports scene landed him roles (as himself) in movies like "Rocky III" and on TV shows such as "Arli$$," "The Game" and "The Parent 'Hood."
His TV career began at an independent San Diego station and later the ABC affiliate there. That was a second career for Hill, a college standout from Texas A&M-Kingsville. The defensive back was a first-round draft pick in 1968 by the San Diego Chargers. He was traded to the Green Bay Packers in 1972, then to the Cleveland Browns three years later, but he quit pro football before the '76 season and shifted to broadcasting full time.
