John Bowers was a silent film actor who starred in such pictures as "Lorna Doone" (1922), "Chickie" (1925), "Sky Pilot" (1921), "When a Man's a Man" (1924), "Say it with Songs" (1929), "Skin Deep" (1929) and "Mounted Fury" (1931).
Before his entrance in films in 1916, Bowers appeared on the stage in "Family Cupboard," "Decent Thing to Do," "Little Miss Brown" and "Life."
Bowers died at the age of 51. In November 1936, he rented a sailboat at a pier in Santa Monica, and several days later the empty boat was found by a lobster fisherman. On Nov. 17, 1936, his body washed ashore just south of Malibu.
Bowers' 1936 Times obituary speculates that he could have committed suicide after failing to successfully transition to sound pictures.
