John Charles Thomas was a leading American baritone and Metropolitan Opera star.

Born in a small Pennsylvania town, Thomas was the son of a Methodist minister. It was originally intended that he become a surgeon.

Thomas began his singing career on Broadway as the star of such productions as "Maytime" and "Apple Blossoms."

Branching out in the concert field, Thomas traveled to Europe where he was the leading baritone of the Brussels Royal Opera for several years.

He later returned to the United States for concert engagements and as a guest artist with the Los Angeles and San Francisco opera companies.

In 1938 Thomas starred in the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera's inaugural production, "Blossom Time." His last performance at the LACLO was with Metropolitan Opera star Dorothy Kirsten in the 1953 performance of Johann Strauss' "The Great Waltz."
