John Tesh
He may be best known as the co-host of “Entertainment Tonight,” but John Tesh has six Emmys, four gold albums, two Grammy nominations and an Associated Press award for investigative journalism. His career spans broadcast news, tabloid television, sports commentary, radio hosting and recording.
Born in Long Island, Tesh studied communications and music at North Carolina State University. After graduation, he worked for a series of local television stations. Eventually he graduated to anchor of New York City’s CBS affiliate and later joined CBS Sports as a commentator.
Tesh left CBS to cohost “Entertainment Tonight” with Mary Hart. He remained with the tabloid-style news show from 1986 to 1996, when he left to pursue his career as a contemporary keyboardist, touring with contemporary instrumental artist Yanni before branching off on his own to record an impressive catalog of instrumental, smooth jazz and Christian inspirational albums. Tesh won Emmys for his Pan American Games and Tour de France themes and wrote “Roundball Rock,” NBC’s theme for NBA basketball from 1990 to 2002.
He has hosted multiple nationally-syndicated radio programs, most recently the “John Tesh Radio Show,” which plays adult contemporary and classic music, interspersed with helpful tips and facts.
Tesh remains jovial about himself and his persona. He has appeared in dozens of television shows and film parodying himself, including “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” where he squared off against Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. He also played a Klingon warrior in an episode of “Star Trek: the Next Generation.”
