Actress Katherine MacDonald was called "The American Beauty" of silent films.
The Broadway star of pre-World War I days followed her sister Mary MacLaren into films.
MacDonald moved to Hollywood in 1917 and spent most of her career with the First National movie company. She starred with Douglas Fairbanks, Thomas Meighan and William S. Hart.
She first appeared on the silver screen in "The Spirit of '17" (1918) and made her last appearance in the 1926 film "Old Loves and New."
