Mabel Taliaferro was an early screen actress once nicknamed the “sweetheart of American movies.”

She began working as a child in New York productions, taking leading roles in a number of Broadway plays before debuting on the screen in the 1911 “Cinderella.” In the 1920s, she retired from the screen and returned to stage acting.
