Actress Marie Wilson made the voluptuous, but scatter-brained secretary in "My Friend Irma" a household name.
The blond comedian's wide-eyed on-camera dizziness belied her personal zest for learning and intellectual self-improvement.
When Cy Howard created "My Friend Irma" for radio in 1947, it was perhaps only natural for him to approach Wilson for the part of the secretary, Irma Peterson.
"Irma" not only became a top-rated radio show, but it — with Wilson as the lead — also ran as a television series from 1952 to 1954 and inspired at least two motion pictures.
Wilson died of cancer at age 56 after a five-year illness.
