The “Mark & Kim Morning Show” on Los Angeles’ KOST-FM (103.5) was the city’s longest-running morning show when the station broke up the duo 2007.
Hosts Mark Wallengren and Kim Amidon greeted Angelenos tuning in to the adult contemporary station every morning for nearly 22 years. The pair broadcast together from 1986 to November 2007, when the station replaced Amidon.
Early in their run together, the cohosts posed for a picture that went on buses all over Los Angeles and branded them as a “yuppie couple,” according to The Times. That image, along with the duo’s family-friendly jokes and mild teasing, made them popular with a target audience Amidon described to the Times in 1989 as, “Nice, educated people. Young couples who are raising their families.”
When the station did not renew Amidon’s contract, Wallengren got a new cohost, Kristin Cruz. Amidon took a slot cohosting a morning show on rival station KTWV-FM (94.7) with Pat Prescott in May 2010.
