William Meiklejohn, often known simply as Meiklejohn, headed major casting at Paramount for 20 years and became known as "The Starmaker."
He handled such stars as Lucille Ball, Alan Ladd, William Holden, Ray Milland, Shirley Temple, Mickey Rooney and Audrey Hepburn.
Meiklejohn was also responsible for bringing Ronald Reagan to the movies. Reagan was working as a sportscaster in Des Moines when he contacted Meiklejohn about a movie career, the agent's daughter, actress Linda de Sapio, recalled after her father's death.
Meiklejohn died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, Calif., on April 26, 1981, 11 days after suffering a heart attack.
