Oliver Stone is a much-lauded, influential filmmaker best known for directing (and either writing or co-writing) gripping Vietnam-era dramas (“Platoon,” “Born on the Fourth of July,” Heaven & Earth”), big-scale biographical dramas (“The Doors,” “JFK,” “Nixon,” “Alexander,” “W”) and uncompromising character studies (“Wall Street,” “Talk Radio,” “Natural Born Killers”).

Other directing credits include “Salvador” and “Any Given Sunday” (both also co-written), “World Trade Center” and the “Wall Street” sequel, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”

Stone, a Vietnam War veteran and NYU Film School graduate, also scripted “Midnight Express” (Oscar and Golden Globe winner, adapted screenplay) and the 1983 “Scarface” remake plus co-wrote the feature version of the musical “Evita.”

The filmmaker won the Oscar, Golden Globe and Directors Guild awards for directing “Platoon” and “Born on the Fourth of July.” He won additional Golden Globe awards for directing “JFK” and for his “Born on the Fourth of July” screenplay. He has earned 11 total Academy Award nominations.

Stone, who has publicly battled drug and alcohol abuse, has also gained notoriety for his often controversial domestic and international political views.

He’s been married three times and has three children.
