Pat Sajak
The longtime host of one of the most successful game shows ever, Pat Sajak began on "Wheel of Fortune" in 1981 when Merv Griffin asked him to become the host. Sajak had been a weatherman on KNBC in Los Angeles.
Before becoming "Wheel's" host, Sajak was in the Army and went to Vietnam, where he worked on Armed Forces Radio in Saigon. He was one of the radio personalities made famous by Robin Williams' role in "Good Morning, Vietnam!"
In 1981, Griffin asked Sajak if he would be interested in taking over the duties as emcee of "Wheel of Fortune." Sajak hosted a daytime version of the show, then went on to host a syndicated version.
Sajak later launched "The Pat Sajak Show" on CBS on Jan. 9, 1989, saying the strategy was to establish his show so that if and when Carson retired, he would be in place as the logical successor as the king of late-night TV. Despite a strong start, the show was canceled.
Sajak is a baseball fan and in 2005 became an investor in the Golden Baseball League. He also hosts "The Pat Sajak Baseball Hour," a syndicated radio sports talk show.
Sajak has won numerous Emmys and People's Choice awards and is intrinsically linked to “Wheel of Fortune’s” longtime letter-turner Vanna White.
