Ricky Martin
Ricky Martin is a platinum-selling international singer who starred in TV commercials at age 7 and joined the Latin American boy band Menudo at age 12 (after three tries). Five years later he went solo in 1991, the year he released his debut album, the Spanish-language “Ricky Martin,” which spawned hits across Latin America and the U.S. He won a Grammy for best Latin pop performance for his 1998 album, “Vuelve.” The following year he delivered a career-defining No. 1 pop hit, “Livin' la Vida Loca.”
His career as an adult actor began on a Spanish-language telenovela but landed him on the iconic soap “General Hospital” after Martin moved to Los Angeles in 1994. Two years later, he was on Broadway in “Les Miserables.” In the years since, he's focused mainly on his music, where his success as a pop singer opened the door to more Latin crossover pop artists, such as Marc Anthony and Shakira. He performed at the 2001 inauguration ball for George W. Bush, famously asking the new president to dance.
