Tyne Daly
Tyne Daly was born into an acting family as the daughter of "Medical Center" star James Daly. She was raised in Westchester County, N.Y., and had her first taste of acting performing in summer stock theater. Daly studied acting at Brandeis University and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. At age 20, Daly married actor and director Georg Stanford Brown.
Daly's screen career began with small parts on television shows and the occasional film. Between 1970 and 1975 she appeared in four episodes of her father's show "Medical Center," as four different characters.
It wasn't until 1981, when Daly was 35, that she became a household name because of her role as detective Mary Beth Lacey on the series "Cagney & Lacey" with Sharon Gless. By the time the series ended in 1988, Daly was an icon, having won Emmy Awards for the role of Lacey in 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1988.
In 1990, Daly and Brown divorced. They shared three daughters with creatively spelled names — Alisabeth, Kathryne and Alyxandra. During that time, Tyne took her craft to the stage. She portrayed Rose in Broadway's "Gypsy" and won a Best Actress in a Musical Tony Award for her performance.
Daly worked steadily after "Cagney & Lacey," starring in many films and television shows and even reuniting with Gless for four "Cagney" TV movies. She hit her screen stride again in 1999 when she was cast on "Judging Amy" as the title character's mother, social worker Maxine Gray. She won a Best Supporting Actress Emmy for the role in 2003.
On Jan. 21, 2010, Daly delighted fans by guest-starring on Gless' USA Network drama, "Burn Notice."
