Walter Koenig
Walter Koenig is best known for his portrayal of Pavel Chekov in the cast of the original “Star Trek” television series and Alfred Bester in the sci-fi series “Babylon 5.”
Koenig, 75, the son of Russian immigrant parents, began his television career playing several roles on the series “A Day in Court,” which led to appearances on series including “Combat,” “General Hospital” and “The Untouchables.” In 1967, in Season 2 of “Star Trek,” he joined the cast as Chekov, the navigator of the USS Enterprise. He appeared in seven “Star Trek” movies.
From 1994 to 1998, he played the recurring character of villainous Psi Cop Alfred Bester on “Babylon 5.” Other guest credits include “Diagnosis: Murder” and “Futurama.”
Though most widely known for his television roles, Koenig has been in more than three dozen stage productions, according to his website.
The actor has been married to Judy Levitt since 1965. The couple’s son, Andrew, died in 2010 at age 41 after a lifelong battle with depression. Their daughter, Danielle, is married to comedian Jimmy Pardo.
