Schayes’ short stay with the Lakers — 13 games — belied an exceptionally long NBA career of 18 years that is all the more remarkable given career averages of 7.7 points and five rebounds a game.
He is the son of Hall of Famer Dolph Schayes and holds the distinction of being the only Lakers player to wear the uniform number 26.
