Not much stood out about Donnie Freeman’s only season in the NBA. His scoring average of 10.8 points in the 1975-76 season was the fifth best on the Lakers and the worst of his professional career.
But the 6-foot-3 guard already had enjoyed an eight-year career in the ABA and is among that league’s all-time leaders in points (11,544, seventh), points per game (19.8, 14th), field goals (4,303, seventh), free throws (2,927, third), free-throw attempts (3,662, fourth), assists (2,121, 13th), minutes played (19,546, 10th) and games (584, 14th).
After retiring, Freeman served as a senior bank examiner for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
