Jones was chosen in the first round of the 1984 draft and was the 23rd pick overall. However, this was during the height of the "Showtime" era for the Lakers, and roster spaces were few and far between. Jones played in only two games for the Lakers before he was sold to San Antonio, which put him on waivers not long after. He finished his career with the Milwaukee Bucks.
