Record: 43-39, sixth place in Pacific Division

One event dominated the 1991-92 season for the Lakers. On Nov. 7, 1991, Magic Johnson announced his retirement after testing positive for the HIV virus. Johnson was voted to the 1992 NBA All-Star Game and earned the game's MVP Award.

Playoffs: The team qualified for the playoffs for an NBA-record 16th straight year, but lost in the first round.
