Jared and the Hefter Family,
It is hard to bring to words the thoughts and feelings I am having in the wake of such a horrible tragedy, I can hardly imagine the pain and heart-ache you must be feeling. You all have been like a family to me since I was a little boy and I know the sadness that comes from loosing such an amazing person like Jacob is not going to ever go away and shouldn't. I do know, however, that with a family like yours and the friends that are seemingly drawn to you, you will find a way to move forward. I am so sorry I will not be able to make my way to the services to show my respects and be there for you during these trying times, but just say the word and I will do whatever you need. Please remember to take time for yourselves and do what feels right to you, but never be afraid of a little help or a quiet ear and warm shoulder.
Jacob should be celebrated for having such a lasting and honest affect on so many people both young and old, few have the heart or ability to touch so many for no other reason than because they are simply a good person. Jacob spent 18 years making all of us proud now it is our responsibility to spend the time we have left making him proud.
Walt-One of the most kind, gentle, and loving person anyone could ever meet. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to work with him. He was so amazing and so full of joy. Walt would light up when he talked about his family. Walt will live forever in my heart.
May your soul rest in peace. Survivors, be still and know that the memories are so very dear.
Jenny, I am so happy that you are finding comfort in the words that have been posted here. What beautiful sentiments have been written about Walt and your family. My respect for you and the kids is beyond words. Please know that I am here for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Kelly, Ryan, Kristi and Casey.
I first met Pete, at my husband's company picnic. This wonderful gentle man, wonderful wife Janice and two wonderful kids,we knew we would become friends.
Pete and Janice attended our parties and just recently, Pete threw Janice a surprise birthday party, which my husband David and I attended. We are blessed to know such great people who came into our lives due to my husband David and Pete working together. One Friday a month Pete would come over and play poker with my husband David, friends, Scotland, Lori, Ruth, Robert and Mark, sharing food and good times.
I still see Pete in my kitchen, laughing and having fun with friends.
Life will not be the same without Pete, the loving and caring sole he was.
He will be missed and LOVED forever.
THANK YOU PETE FOR COMING INTO OUR LIVES!!!!
WE WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER!

Mr. Long was my 9th grade english teacher and cross country coach. Though he was my teacher, my most memorable moments are of him as a coach. When we had to travel to a cross country meet Mr. Long would drive us in the school's white van; when we had to pray before a race he would be right there with us; and afterwords he would take us all out to dinner to celebrate our accomplishments in the race. Our team spent a lot of time with him at practice and got to know him not only as a teacher and coach, but as a person of God. From cool summer mornings to hot afternoons, we would run up and down hills at practice, and Mr. Long was always there supporting us. He was one of those people who coached for the love of coaching; it wasn't just a job to him. I learned a lot from Mr. Long; whether it was to push myself to run a little faster, or if it was to write a five paragraph essay in honors Lit. Mr. Long will always be in my heart, and the Long family in my prayers.
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Jenny: I'm so greatful that we had a chance to be with the two of you in the last few months - like we were saying at Phil's party, we need to see each other more often because you never know when it's your time to go home. I'm looking forward to that big reunion! Jenny, love to you and yours. I hope to see you Saturday. Walt was a special person to a lot of us. He will be missed.
