It is so unfortunate that such a great, hard working soul is taken from earth so soon. Although I did not know Atul, my prayers go out to him and his family.

To the Heftner Family, I am deeply saddened to find out this news about Jacob. Although I did not know him personally, I was able to get a sense of him and your family through the time I spent with you at the command center at Chatsworth High School. It was apparent that Jacob was loved and came from a warm, wonderful family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time.

For some reason, whenever one learns about such a tragedy, one always fixates on those that are about their own age. . . or maybe it is just me, I don't know. But yesterday, from the very moment I first read that quote from his mother, I so, so, so hoped that what I feared simply wouldn't come true. My heart goes out to Manuel and all his family. I dunno, it's strange. But for some reason I have not been able to stop thinking about his mother, and about the desperate denial that was so heart wrenching in her quote. When I saw that this list had been posted, I was so hoping that somehow. . . his name wouldn't be on it. It's all just so sad.

Walt loved his profession and God. I fondly remember the times that he was my Supe 97-99 before the burden of Labor-Management Relations. I will pray Rosaries for him

He was my best teacher I had ever had. I hated the subject before he taught it. I could not stop looking forward to his class. I grew to love the man in Christ. He was full of love and always wanted to help each and every student. He had a ton of grace. He was a blessing to each and every student that he taught. I am more of a man and a stronger Christian thanks to him. I am honored to have known him. His passion was unmatched by any other teacher. I know he is a man of God and is certainly with Christ as we speak. God bless him! We will see you soon Mr. Long! We miss you very much. I cannot wait to see you again. In Christ.

He was easily the smartest and most gifted person I had met to this point. I met him at school but I befriended him through a video game of all things. He was always competitive and it drove others around him to try to be as great. Unlike most people younger than me, he was one of the only ones that I truly looked up to. It's a damn shame and a waste to lose someone with so much potential. My heart goes out to his loving family. Hold strong Aseem.
