It was Jake's great pleasure to carry the Honor Bag that week in Brian's name. Brian's Honor Bag and story has traveled with us throughout the year and we have shared his story with any all who would listen. It was our distinct honor to take Brian's bag and story with us to the US Open at Chambers Bay in June when my son qualified. I took pictures around the venue and with some of the Police personnel, many of whom were veterans as well. They were all deeply moved by Brian's story. We will continue to share and remember Brian and encourage others to support the Wounded Warrior Project in his name. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always. I was too young to feel the impact of your loss. But now, now I feel it. I feel the power you left the Oak Park Community with. I feel the love you brought to countless individuals that I have come to know. Thank you. Thank you for serving our nation. Thank you for dedicating your life to the betterment of countless other individuals. You are not forgotten. English classes with Schultheis, Willis, Fowler, discuss what you have done, what you meant. Teachers still smile about your time in their classes. People care. I'll talk to you later. Thanks again. There is not a day that goes by where I don't think of you. I am truly sorry that we could not save you on that day. I was sitting at the beach on the 20th thinking of you and I saw a rainbow-- I believe in my heart that was you. I never had the honor to meet with you prior to you being hit but I will never forget you. You will always be in my prayers. I am proud to have served with you. You showed up at Joyce with 3 other Privates looking as fresh as I'd ever seen. I remember talking to you more in depth after I had given you your initial briefing about being back home in Cali. Then Command Sergeant Major Carabello walked by and after he welcomed you to the unit, I sent you to your tent to get some rest before your platoon would come to pick you up later that day. You were hit less than 30 minutes later. I'm sorry brother. I'm so sorry. During the past year I've come to know your family through email, and together with your father figured out our family connection. I'm proud to consider myself a relative of yours, and to honor your memory. Our thoughts and prayers are always with you. It was family weekend from March 20 to March 22, 2009 at Fort Benning, Georgia. I was so happy to see you and to spend the weekend with you. From the minute I picked you up from Fort Benning, you were beaming with a sense of purpose, determination and pride. I was very proud of you! We satisfied your cravings for McDonalds, Chinese food and sugar. You showed me how you ate your meal in seven minutes. You were a gentleman and opened the door for me when you were in your military uniform (no such luck when you were in your t-shirts). You were constantly vigilant when we were out walking. You used to be oblivious of your surroundings. You told me about your daily training and stories of others’ foolish behaviors including those that got you in trouble. Though you were still my sweet Brian, you were so grown up. I couldn’t be more proud of you, Brian. I love you and miss you very, very much. There aren't enough of people like that around these days RIP. Oak Park will always remember you. My thoughts and prayers truly go out to you and your family Sun, 05 Jun 2011 08:27:19 -0700
