Fond anecdote about Chris … the one way I got him to do his work was to promise to call him Chris (he couldn’t stand to be called Christopher). Since learning of his passing on the news on TV over 11 years ago, Memorial Day weekend hasn’t been the same for me. Chris was a funny and a very respectful teenager trying to do the best during trying times. He loved football and always had a smile. I miss you and think of you fondly! Young passed me and Sgt. Williams along with Spc. Young were fillers from 40th BSB in Bell,CA and attached to C co. 3/160th and were mobilized together in Fort Dix,NJ but unfortunately me and Sgt. Williams and few others are non deployable for medical reasons, so we went home to California. Months later the acting 1SG called me at my civilian day job and informed about the IED that hit Sgt. Young that killed him and i was not able to go to work the next day. I was so heartbroken and the guilt for not being there for him. I miss u brother and your sacrifice will never be forgotten. You always had something funny to say & I enjoyed working with you in the motor pool. I have many regrets about not being with you on that patrol as your medic. I think of you every day. I pray you are resting peacefully. Tue, 31 Oct 2017 12:16:20 -0700 Sgt. I found out about your death once I got back to states. For 10 years I dealt with the guilt of going home and doing the Convoy Schedule working with 33rd MP being assigned from 586 SFS.
