Through knowing Guy, he showed me when I was a new NCO, I shouldn’t forget that there is a human element involved in leading guys; that respect is earned not demanded. Guy wasn’t just a soldier, he was a friend and brother to many in our unit. He was a friend and brother to me. Thank you for your humbling and sobering lessons you taught me through your friendship. God bless you my friend. When he volunteered to Join the National Guard, he told me on that first day that he just wanted to make a positive difference and felt frustrated not knowing how. Many do not know he was not slated to go on the deployment that took his life. He volunteered because many of his friends and comrades from the unit were going and he wanted to be with them, As fillers for another unit. He was determined and relentless but not naive. He had spent many days that previous winter helping homeless people who were using our armory in Pomona as a shelter. He helped give some of the homeless rides to local churches to get a warm meal and so much more. I learned a lot about him that winter. His hopes, his dreams, his passions. He always had this smile that made you smile no matter how your day was going. He was most positively one of the good guys. And can never be forgotten by those that knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with you always GUY! I was blessed to have known you. We laughed, we argued, we hung out, we stayed in the house and did nothing. You tried to teach me to drive :) You would call me from Iraq. And every call you made, and everytime I heard from you, it was so much joy to hear my brothers voice again. It's been hard not having you. But I'm so proud of you soldier, friend, and big brother....RIP GUY. A day I will never ever forget. You're a great guy/friend. Our daughter's are around the same age...a couple of months apart. You pop into my head every now and then, but are always in my heart. I was one of the guys who carried you to the chopper, my way of saying good bye, cause I couldn't be home for your funeral. Take care my friend and I hope to see you on the other side. I remember his strong sense of humor. I also served in the war in Iraq, but during the invasion (2003-2004). I am very grateful to have made it home. Unfortunately, that same war took an amazing person away from this world. It saddens my heart to know that the world is without this man who was definitely a warrior at heart. I have personally known 2 soldiers who have sacrificed everything. It is such a blessing to have known you, Shakere. I hope your soul is living it up on the other side!! You were a GREAT person, and I hope to one day see you again. God Bless your family and all the loved ones you left behind. RIP SOLDIER!!! You are a TRUE hero!!! There are alot of people in this country that have no clue, respect or honor for those like you that paid the ultimate price to live the way that we do in America. Living free is not free, it comes at a very high price. You payed that price for the Country you loved. Although I never knew you Shakere, I thank you and honor you. God Bless you, Ronald Weber PS.
