I never personally knew his family so I don't have a memory of Marcus to share with them either. The miles between us is great. You see, I live on the East Coast. But I did meet Marcus some years ago while I was jogging one morning. I had my earphones on while listening to NPR radio. It was on this radio station that I met Marcus. They said that Marcus died while fighting for his country. They said that he was only 18 years old. They said he loved Christian rap. I remember stopping in my tracks, standing there shaking my head. I remember saying to myself, "but he was too young to die." I remember saying to myself "an 18 year old who loved God." "Wow" " That's great." Believe it or not, I never forgot his name through the years. Even though I never met him or his family, I never forgot the sacrifice that he made for his country. The sacrifice he made for me. Today is Sunday May 29, 2016 and tomorrow is Memorial Day. I dedicate Memorial Day to the memory of Marcus and the ultimate sacrifice he made for us. I am 61 years old but if God continues to let me keep my mind, I will NEVER forget Marcus. The young man who I never knew but feel I know. Marcus you are with God and one day I will meet you. RIP MARCUS! Marcus was such a sweet guy and had the biggest smile. When someone was having a bad day he was there to cheer them up and even if he was having a bad day his smile reassured us everything would be alright. A funny anedocte I have from him telling us was when he was so mad yet smiling telling us how he had received a speeding ticket off of Aten rd when taking his sister to school for speeding! Everytime I pass there I remember him because of his story. He had a passion for Christ. And his brother was the talk during spanish period, he was so proud of his big brother, he always talked about joing the marines. RIP Marcus, Patricia Thu, 01 Dec 2011 07:24:29 -0800
