When he said that he was joining the Marines to be a part of the Infantry, I asked him how he felt about the danger involved. His answer still gives me chills: "If I die in war, I'll die doing what I've always wanted to do - defending America." Jose was a great kid, easy to get along with, and a whiz at math. It was heartbreaking to lose him. There is a memorial to him at Ensign School. My condolences to all his family members. He is remembered this Memorial Day. I never met Jose Angel Garibay but my dad said he was a great person. It really is a shame I never met my own family member. I wish I could tell him about my four uncles that are following his foot steps and have joined the military. May you rest in piece Jose Angel Garibay. We will always remember that you are still with us. Marine, Killed In Iraq, Kept His Family Foremost." Twelve years later, I want to express my belated condolences to his family and friends. Jose was, quite obviously, a remarkable young man. Never saw him after graduation even though from what I read we were on the opposite sides of Camp Lejeune. We both deployed to the middle east around the same time. He was lucky enough to go to Iraq where the fight was. I was in Kuwait for my tour. May his memory and sacrifice live forever. God bless his family. Great guy! We used to eat ranger pudding near Flemings rack and hide from the drill instructors . I was lucky enough to hang with him before he left for Iraq. I came back from Afghanistan and was on convalescent leave nursing a knee injury and watching the news. Kia list scrolled across the screen and I seen his name. I was crushed! Fleming and Garibay were the first people I met entering the corps. I would like to offer my condolences to his family. I served in 1st Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment in 1997. I often think of the service personnel that have defended our rights and liberties selflessly. Thank you and I want to thank his family for his sacrifice. Gone but not forgotten. Dios te bendiga!
