I am proud that I had the honor to serve next to an American Hero! I will always remember your war CRY and your big HEART!!! It is men like you that we thank for our freedom. Thank you brother and miss ya. Always and forever Platoon 3057!!! Semper Fi Brother......... Love ya, Aaron McGuire / USMC 3rd RTB, "Insane" India Company, Platoon 3057 Sat, 28 Oct 2017 05:38:03 -0700 Juan Lopez on November 2, 2015 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/victor-r-lu/#c182053 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/victor-r-lu/#c182053 Vic, it's been years...the last time i saw you was at SOI in 2003 after we graduated bootcamp. I ran into you, surprised to see from the mountains and on the parade deck. We were all happy to reunite after 3057 and soon going into the abyss in the fleet. Kielion was in your SOI class I think bc his parents and my parents wanted us to link up in Pendleton but I remember you were estatic to tell me the good news about Lumpsey making Honor Grad and Lumpsey was with you to tell me the news. We made it through 3057 and i knew you were having a hard time with the weight in bootcamp, you looked very sick but you were very strong to hold on to the rest of the journey to make it through bootcamp. I admired your strength and you'll never be forgotten in my eyes and heart... I didn't hear of the news until I met up with Stevenson in Sergeant's Course in 2008 when he asked me, 'Did you hear about Lu?' 'Nah, bro, what's up?' 'he didn't come home, he got peppered in Fallujah'... My heart sank to see a great giant fall. So I decided to do my final report on the Battle of Fallujah in your honor, bc that's what was happening and I knew beforehand, my neighbor at the time, Kielion was KIA and was in your same unit but different company... Peace be with you, Rest In Peace, and I'll see you in the Halls of Valhalla... I'll always be here for you bro, i have a memorial for all my fallen bros', you're one of them and every Memorial Day and Marine Corps birthday i light those candles, they go out when they can't burn no more but the flames never die in my heart. What ever is on your mind, you can always talk to me, i'm here for you, just see me in my sleep, everyone else does. I'm out now, got out in 2012, i re-up'd another term to go EOD but i didn't make the cut, it finished before it started, made a deployment to Marjah and now I'm sick... I made SSgt at the end of the 10 years bro... now i'm back to my roots working the oilfields down here in Tx. Everything is good but its just i hurt everyday of it bc it reminds me of the hell we all went through but i'm hanging on just like you held on to finish and graduate. I will never forget how with great ease you were flipping over 7 ton tires at Warriors Night. Everyone in 3rd Bn 5th Mar. knew who Vic Lu was, and from this day on, I will never forget Big Lu. The greatest event that ever happen to me was to serve with heroes such as yourself, along with the rest of our brothers we have lost in battle. Our wounds will never heal, but your spirit will live on forever. Even though we served together, I want to give you my gratitude and thank you for serving our country, and for fighting for our freedom. I miss you brother, and you will never be forgotten. On this day, I will have a drink open at the bar for you, and I will respect that drink for you and for the men of 3rd Bn. 5th Mar. THREE-FIVE...GET SOME!!! NACTON....DARKHORSE....and for HAVOC.... As I remembered looking down on his casket before it lay to rest I threw a cigarette and told him, "I'll see you again." Thank you for the memories that you have engrave in my soul and you will never be forgotten. It's been a long time since we last spoke. I remember all the hard work we put in at RSS Pasadena to get you to drop some pounds, all the studying we did together. Vic I remember the day we went and talked with your family when I dropped you off to go to bootcamp. We drove down Old Town Pasadena to see the ladies walking around one last time. Vic, you were always in a good mood, never mad, always happy and willing to help the other pooles. I remember how proud your father was the day I gave you the Delayed Entry Enlistment Certificate. We both signed it, and you joked "Sgt Lam, one day I wanna be your gunner". Those words have never left my mind and my heart Vic. Because after I dropped you off to go to bootcamp I never saw you again. Vic, I Love you Marine.I am sorry I never had the chance to tell you it, but you were my favorite recruit. It has taking me this long to be strong enough and tell you all this because I have been filled with guilt. But I know that being a Marine was the only thing you ever wanted to do and I am glad, we made it happen. You and I. I will do my best to honor you daily for the rest of my life. Semper Fi. B.M.Lam.
