I had the honor of escorting LCpl Santee home to his family from Dover AFB. It was a humbling experience and I was very saddened seeing his family in their time of sorrow. Although I did not know Daniel personally, he was my brother and I felt that it was my duty to get him home safe. I carried his watch and dog tags in my pocket the entire time and read every word about him in the file I was given. It was probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do as a Marine and I will never forget his name as long as I live. Semper Fi R.I.P LCpl Santee TILL VALHALLA BROTHER!!

Dan was my best friend. I spoke to him on sat phone a couple days before. I will never forget the times we spent together sneaking into apartment jacuzzis and drinking PBR and taking about surfing and the good times in life. Dan saved my life during a kiteboarding accident when he came with me to a training session and I wouldn't be alive today with out him, in more ways than that. Dan was always there for me and I would always be there for him. I will never forget that day I was in San Luis and got the call that informed me that a brother had died. I know dan had so many friends because that was Dan. Danny was the kind of guy that walked into a room and people instantly wanted to be friends with. He was an adventurer, hard worker, fun loving, relaxed and all around the best kind of guy that this world should be more of. I miss you Danny you are always with me and even to this day drive me to be a more carefree yet ethical and hard working person. You taught me never to accept just "ok" always be better and go above and beyond. Love you brother. Forever and always.

I love you brother. Time goes on but the memories remain vivid. Mostly hilarious ones..like the time we dugout custom lazy boys out of the dirt..or when we were climbing that tree in which you caused me to fall out of (unintentionally)..Or the time we cleaned your mom's apartment for 50$ to buy a surf board but found out after the fact that it cost 500$ ..I can go on forever but they are all memories i can visit and smile upon..I love you I thank you and think of you all the time . You live on brother.

Danny was my first love, and I was blessed to be his girlfriend for the few short months before he passed. It's been 7 years now, and I still think of his endless kindness, his selfless devotion to his family, friends, and myself. Danny was a good man, and I still miss him daily. He'll never be forgotten. Thank you for changing my world, sweetheart. <3

I had the pleasure of going to boot camp with Santee, platoon 1006. He was a great man, and a great friend. We helped each other get through boot camp and I was able to get to know his sister through writing letters. What a wonderful family. I just found out about his passing tonight when trying to search for him after all these years of being out of touch.... My thoughts are with you and your family my friend. Dan was one of my best friends, and in my heart, still is. As April 14th approaches, it's hard to believe it has almost been 6 years since you have walked this earth. You gave so much to so many people, I know as long as I live I will never forget the wonderful memories you left me with. I hope you are resting in peice brother and I can't wait to see you again one day, but until that day, I will continue to tell as many people as possible about the wonderful, kind, loving, and fearless person you were.

My mum was a babysitter for Danny and his other siblings when they where kids. I have only met him once in my life, but he is the sweetest person I have ever meet and I will always remember and love him. He was so brave, fighting for his country and I knew from the very first time I met him that he was an extraordinary person and nothing could ever change that. I wan't really good at English, at the time I met him, but we still found a way to communicate and that is something I always will remember. I miss him so much and I wish I would have had more time with him. I wish, when I some day have kids that they will be as kind-hearted as he was. He was an angel sent to the earth which is something you don't see everyday. Camilla Knudsen, Denmark.

I didn't know you Daniel but I had the honor of meeting your mom briefly at a Veteran's Day ceremony. She seems like a wonderful person and I know she is very proud of you. My name is Daniel also. I was a Marine fire team leader in Vietnam, and I also used to live in Mission Viejo. Like you, I was proud to be a Marine (in my heart I still am a Marine). I remember playing football at middle school with him, he would always roll up his jeans so he could "run faster" He taught me to laugh, and take life everyday at a time and take it in. R.I.P. Danny.
