I have your face tattooed on my rib cage along with Fig and Peto. I survived that night and rode in the helo holding your hand until they put me under from the amount of pain I was in. I will always love and remember you Esco. My best friend, my protector, and forever my brother! Semper Fi! I got a message from you one day before you were taken from us that you promised me that u were going to try your best to make it to my boot camp graduation if you were back from Iraq by that time. Throughout those 13 weeks I spent in Recruit training and I felt like giving up I just thought of you. You were my motivation to keep going and not give up. Every day I wear a memorial bracelet with your name rank date and location you were taken from us. I even had a second one made and left it on the summit of Mount Suribachi on the exact site were the American flag was raised on the island of Iwo Jimma during World War II. I Visited you yesterday on memorial day as I Do Every Veterans day, and on Dec 31'st your birthday and was saddened to see the sight of dead flowers at your grave site. i could bare to see your final resting place like that so I went in search of fresh Red and white roses. On my way out I ran into the two marines that were with you when you were taken. It was an honor to shake their hand. They brought you fresh flowers and a bottle of jack. When i returned with the fresh flowers the dead flowers were gone from your grave and fresh ones were places in their place. I stuck two Marine Corps Flags and one US Flag and one Mexico flag into the grass and placed a green barracks cover next to the bottle of jack the other marines had left for you. Sergio all these things that were left there for you were in your honor, Thank you for what you did, you are never forgotten. Your Friend and fellow Marine. Semper Fi! His death and his honor had a great impact on my son. Rogelio also joined the Marines and told me to never forget his friend Sergio and what he did for his country. Two years later, my son Rogelio also gave his life for his country. Now together they both serve in a greater place. God bless them both and they will not be forgotten.
