I live everyday wondering why I wasn't taken that day. "The Camel Spider" RIP Gilo, and Hicks. I miss you guys more than anything. See you soon Gilo as I make it up to see you 3 times a year you know we talk. Miss you brother. He was one of the first friends I made there. He was always positive and encouraging even in the tough times. The last time I saw him was at camp lejeune at the French creek gym, imagine that, right before he went on deployment. We hadn't seen each other since boot camp. He told me about his upcoming deployment and I told him my unit was to deploy shortly after to the same area. he said "alright cowboy (this what he called me in boot camp as I'm from Texas) I'll see you over there or back here." I will never forget him. God bless his family and may you rest in peace my brother. Semper FI. I was in his truck until right before this fateful deployment. I was still in his squad when this terrible incident occurred. My heart did and still goes out to Es and their children. God I wish we still had Gilo and Lil Hickey. God bless their souls. Had the pleasure of playing soccer and football with him as well. Great friend! He is missed. I remember when his girlfriend would come I would lend him my car so he can take her out till we went and bought the escalade he got. I'm actually trying to get in contact with his girl friend I new her from him and we lost contact after finding out he had passed away. Id like to meet his son and lend a hand in any way possible. He was always upbeat, even when things really sucked. He maintained a positive attitude and talked about his son every chance he got on Sundays or while we were "quietly" cleaning our weapons. Our paths separated after SOI in January of 2005, but I could tell that he was a natural born leader and going to make a great Marine from his attitude. Thu, 23 Feb 2012 01:47:16 -0800 Cpl. I was scared to be around all the senior Marines but Carlos was there to take me in under his wing. He would always say if any of these "egotistic Marines" ever bother you just give me a call and I'll come straighten them out. I served with him in Iraq in 2007. I remember him showing off pictures of his 3 month old son the day we went out on our patrol together. Thats one of the last things I ever heard Carlos say besides how much he misses and loves his family. I'll never forget that day nor any other day I shared with "Gilo" as we Marines would call him. R.I.P. Corporal Gilo Oorah and Job well done! Tue, 07 Dec 2010 09:37:21 -0800
