I did not know this individual but simply knowing that he grew up in the same city as I did saddens me. Thank for your service bro. You will never be forgotten. Luis was stationed with my son Quentin at Fort Hood. I had spoken to Luis on the phone a time or two (usually when they were in the car on the way to Austin for the weekend). Luis would tell Quentin "let me know when your mom sends the beef jerky" He would get on the phone to say thank you and to let me know how much he loved it. Quentin deployed to Iraq with Luis. I loved to see the photos of the guys. Luis always had that beautiful smile. I am blessed that my son physically returned home. Nothing prepared us for the emotional toll of war. It is hard to help him grieve and deal with such a loss when we can't comprehend it ourselves. You are not forgotten Luis. We pray for your family. We hope your son grows up knowing his daddy is a "hero". The last thing I remember seeing was his smiling face. I remember coming back to base and them telling us he passed en route to the hospital. We were crushed. He died a hero and should be remembered as one. His spirit lives on forever. Say what you want about the war or the presidents, but do not ever forget that real men fight the wars. We were all out there and his death was not in vain. No death was. It's sad, he was a really cool, and down to earth person. Always wanted to be in the military, I remember thats all he would talk about. Sad, he was young. Rest in peace man. I was delivering chow for the platoon on patrol, and realized what I had heard. I had just talked to you the night before you left on patrol. I never wanted to have to inventory and ship your things home, this was the hardest part of my being what you all liked to call me, a fobbit. I am greatful to have know you and respect your kindness. It was an honor to serve in the same company with you. I am sorry, but I am so sincere. I don't think a green card worth that much. I hope your mother get to meet your child some day, until then this story sounds to me a total disaster.
