I had him for two classes and when I first met him I was like, wow this kid is calling me, "Yes sir, no sir." I was impressed and he definitely stood out among his classmates. He decorated his binder I remember vividly with military slogans and decals. He was only a junior at time and I recall thinking to myself it was kids like this I want defending our country. I also recall an emotional day in the classroom when Daniel comforted someone who was crying and needed to be consoled. Let me be one of many who shares with you that Daniel is remembered by me and I have had hundreds and hundreds of students, for of the way he carried himself at such a young age. He was so sure of himself at a time few are, like he was called to serve and serve with honor he did. I'm sorry Daniel is gone, but glad he came into our lives, however briefly that was. Parker was on the front line with us fighting through An-Najaf and earned the Valorous Unit Citation (Unclassified in 2008) with our unit. He was a brave soldier and willing to face his enemy in battle with no hesitation. I still to this day say Parkers name in a drunken rant on Memorial day yelling his name before toasting a shot to him. I still don't know what all happened but when they brought him in his squad said someone ran them off the road. I watched as every medic in our unit tried to save his life we were all standing around him in a circle hoping prying he would be all right. Parker did not die alone or in pain he past surround by his band of brothers. However, we are very proud of his service to his country. Whenever we visit the cemetery, we always stop and give Daniel a blessing and tell him he is also our hero. God Bless you Daniel and thank you. We did have the honour of meeting his mother and sister a few years ago at one of the Memorial Day services held at the cemetery. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends for we know they miss him. I'll never forget him visiting me only a day or two before he died. He couldn't stop complementing me on my combat infantry badge. I have a lot of fond memories with Dan. From JROTC in high school, to Ft. Campbell, to Mosul, Iraq. I'll never forget him & to this day I make sure that those who never knew him learn of him, & his selfless service. He was a shining example of everything a soldier should be & gave everything of himself to serve others. He was like that even before the Army. I'll miss you forever, Dan. The bible gives us a reason for hope at John 5:28.
