It was part of Armor Down's "Mindful Memorial Day 2018". It was a meaningful and sobering event, and I am glad to know pages like this exist to honor the memory of brave servicemen like him. Thank you for you service June 2, 2016 Thu, 02 Jun 2016 05:27:48 -0700 naomi clarke on May 20, 2013 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/fernando-s-tamayo/#c120671 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/fernando-s-tamayo/#c120671 My deepest sympathy to the Tamayo family. After reading the comments posted , its obvious that Fernando was a very special young man and deeply loved by family and friends. Please take comfort in knowing that Jehovah God promises a resurrection at (John 5:28, 29) Fernando will live again in a peaceful new world ,where there will be no more wars. (Psalms46:9) you can be assured of this because Jehovah always keep his promises. We became good friends and as I got to no him, I saw that he wanted to be a marine. He used to bring the movie full metal jacket and also platoon all the time to school hoping that one day the teacher would let them watch it in class. Because of this I gave him the nickname of "MARINES". He liked so it stuck. The last time I saw my friend, " MARINES" was outside of target in Fontana, he told me he was going to Iraq, I wished him luck. I miss u " MARINES" u were like a brother to me, I hope to see u again one day, I no god wanted u to protect the gates of heaven, and that's why you left... While on vacation to Colorado Springs I attempted a summit known as St Peter's Dome, about 10,000ft. As it turns out there's a geocache on the summit. As me and my wife reached the geocache we discovered that there was a geocoin in the cache devoted to Lance Cpl Tamayo. I had to have it. I've been deployed twice, once to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. I will carry on his coin devoted to his memory and place it in a geocache worthy of his memory. Please follow it on www.geocaching.com/track with a code of us75f1 Thu, 19 Jul 2012 09:39:14 -0700 Ivan Salazar on May 30, 2011 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/fernando-s-tamayo/#c52413 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/fernando-s-tamayo/#c52413 I remember talking to Fernie rarely, but the times we did talk he seemed like a cool guy, someone to look up to. I saw him one time at another persons funeral in his uniform, i thought that was pretty cool and said to myself "I'm going to be like him someday". He would always ask me about my brother Fabian whenever he saw me, because he used to be in the Army. The hardest part of all, however, was when me and my mom were in Mexico City visiting family and got a call that Fernando had passed away. At that point i didnt know who they were talking about and then i finally realized it was him. That was when me and my mom started crying, praying and hoping that everything was going to be okay. Fernando is not only a Hero to me, but to everyone in the United States.I know Fernie is in a better place now and he will forever be engraved in our hearts.
