I would run into his arms and he would swing me around. He was the best person I could have ever gotten to know. I love him and always will. I miss him every day. I met Tony in a barefoot street race in front of his best friend David's house. The following summer it was three flies up by the orchards with Tony, David, Tyler, Adrian, and James, and me the only girl in the dang neighborhood under age 15. The summer after that I remember being paralyzed by fear while Tony and David tried to get me to sneak sips strawberry kiwi wine coolers from the garage refrigerator--it didn't work, I was a square, but they just laughed. I have many fond memories of childhood with Tony all throughout them. I didn't realize how prevalent his presence was in my formative years until he was gone. We didn't talk much through high school, but I do remember his great smile, frequent laughter, and love for the ladies! Tony the man, the myth, the legend and one of my first childhood friends. May God Bless his family at this time. Thinking of you and the other great losses in the BHS family. He was so much fun and always getting into stuff! What an amazing kid! Love you Tony!! It's been 9 years since we saw those blue eyes and huge smile. Thanks to you my son Mark is now a Marine. Since the day you died that was his dream. We thank you for your sacrifice and you will live in our hearts always. Always smiling, always laughing, and always seeing the good in people. Inside jokes with Tony were the best and he had plenty of them with all of his friends and family. He brought people together through his genuine kindness and his laid back personality that made everyone feel welcome. He was also very dedicated; when he found something he liked/wanted, he went for it. Tony was so proud to be a marine and I am proud to call him a friend. I miss you Tony! The rifle hit him hard in the face Anthony received the blow stood up straight at attention and carried on as if nothing happened. Man now that is what I call military bearing and he definitely had that when he needed it. Rest in peace. As a fellow member of the service and as a family member, I can say that we lost a great American. The impact that Tony made on his family and friends is still felt today (8 years later). There is not go a day that goes by that I do think about him. I miss him dearly. His contribution to his family and country will never be forgotten. I love you cousin and you will be in my heart forever. For your sacrifice, words do little to describe our sincere gratitude. However, There is a hope for a future where such wonderful people will not have to die in the wars of the world. ISAIAH 2:4 And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore....REV 21:3,4-"death will be no more" Sat, 31 Mar 2012 10:50:06 -0700 Andy on February 28, 2012 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/anthony-e-butterfield/#c70640 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/anthony-e-butterfield/#c70640 I remember in recruit training, the drill instructors called him recruit Buttercup.
