He was a good friend and quite the comedian. We had a pay phone in our hallway of the barracks where the soldiers would give out the number to people for callbacks. The phone had the letters ATU, which stood for Anchorage Telelphone Utilities, however according to Tyson this stood for Andre Tyson Utilities and any female who called on his phone was fair game since they were using his phone which was conveniently located outside his barracks room door. Of course he was just playing around, but this is one moment I remembered that still makes me laugh. I was surprised when I saw he passed and very sad. My deepest condolences to his family during this Memorial Day. He was a great guy and soldier, God bless! Visiting a deploying friend, I had met LT. Tyson at his military units going away (deployment) family event. As time passed and events unfolded I was honored to be selected as his notification officer. I bare his name on my wrist every day to remind me of the weight he and his family endured and still endures with his and their sacrifices. God Bless LT. Andre D. Tyson & his family. I became and will always remain his witness. I got him promoted to Corporal, and watched him grow and go to OCS. I remember him bring in his son on drill weekends when I became the first Sergeant and would watch him while he trained the soldiers. When Andre and other soldiers in the company got orders to deploy my wife and I drove to Long Beach and took some of them to dinner that night, Andre had other plans and we said our good by's and I told him to take care of the soldiers going with him, he said that he would. I think about that day even 10 years later. Rest in Peace my friend.
