Once at a picnic, the second time the day you came home. I remember when your mother was pregnant with you, watching her struggle coming to work so she could keep a roof over her young families head and food on the table. How proud she was of you, even when she was struggling. When I heard you'd passed, I have visions of my own mother shaking every time the Navy Chaplin drove passed the house in his dress uniform, going to notify some family that their loved one would be returning home one last time. My father did 5 tours to Vietnam in a 33 year career, so I grew up fearing this very moment in my own life. When I heard about your homecoming, I contacted some friends who rode over to the airport to meet you. I was so afraid your mom would be alone when they unloaded you off the plane. Some times words aren't enough, and silent strength is needed to push past a moment. Your mother had always been there for me when I needed it.. I was proud I could return the favor that day. I carried the dog tag from that "mission" around with me for years, always a constant reminder of the sacrifices others were willing to make on my behalf. A simple thing, with your name, rank, US Army and the day you passed from us. Somewhere along the way the metal gave way and I lost it. I know the person who found it has no idea what it meant to me, no idea what it signified. I know you realize how much your mother loved you, your family loved you. How much they miss you. And they think about you, resting peacefully, in God's loving arms. For your sacrifice, words do little to describe our sincere gratitude. However, There is a hope for a future where such wonderful people will not have to die in the wars of the world. ISAIAH 2:4 And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore....REV 21:3,4-"death will be no more" Sat, 31 Mar 2012 11:00:06 -0700 Sabrina on March 25, 2011 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/cameron-k-payne/#c48610 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/cameron-k-payne/#c48610 May I first start off by expressing my condolences to you and your family on Private 1st class Cameron Payne. I want to honor this soldier with my thoughts and prayers, and remember him for his service. I am very sorry for your loss. I'm a mother of 3, with a 17-year-old son, and otherwise, just an everyday American who is out here and is humbly grateful. With respect, Ann Sun, 30 May 2010 11:02:36 -0700 Demetra Sullivan on April 11, 2010 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/cameron-k-payne/#c25269 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/cameron-k-payne/#c25269 Cameron, like so many of us, hit a few bumps in the road while growing up. I am glad that I had the pleasure of seeing him mature into a strong man, husband, and father. His memory will live on forever. I was introduced to him by a close friend of mine during my freshmen year in school. I remember walking to school with him just about every day during my freshman and sophomore year, I remember we would laugh all the time on the way to school. After school we would grab our skateboards and have some fun. I was truly saddened to hear he passed away. May he rest in peace! It's during this time I miss him the most. Just the other day I was looking at all the homemade cards that Cameron made me throughout is younger years and began to cry. I'm so thankful that I never threw any of his artwork away. I miss you son and will see you in my dreams. Love, Mommy Thu, 08 Jan 2009 01:37:03 -0800
