I met your brother 2 years after you passed away, and we became fast friends. And now 10 years later, he and I remain extremely close. I’ve asked him about you quite a bit over the years. He’s told me so many wonderful stories about your childhood, and your amazing mother’s career as a single mother, raising two active boys in LA on a nurse’s salary. It’s clear the two of you have an unbreakable bond that not even the tragedies of war can fracture. It’s hard to explain how I have felt your presence in my life as your brother has evolved into one of the closest friend’s I’ve ever had, over the last decade-plus since you passed. I remember the tremendous toast we all had to your memory and spirit at his wedding. It was clear you were there with us in the room to smile on and bless your brother as he stepped into the next stages of his life with his new bride. You were especially missed that day. I often wonder about the future you were denied and about how you would have continued to impact us in life, had your fate been different. I wonder about how we would have connected through your brother. I’m pained that I don’t get to experience your gentle grace and warm heart in life, like so many others that you obviously touched on this earth. Know that your brother remains extremely proud of your contributions while you were here, and he’s helped so many like me, learn about and appreciate you, after your transition. May God bless you and your soul, your mother, your brother and all those you touched so deeply. We trained hard to get him where he wanted to be. I was happy to hear he had reached his goal of becoming a devil dog but sad when I heard of his death upon my return from Iraq. He was dedicated and loyal and I'm sure he is missed by all who knew him, a gentle giant for sure. Rest in peace my friend semper. -Staff Sgt. For your sacrifice, words do little to describe our sincere gratitude. However, There is a hope for a future where such wonderful people will not have to die in the wars of the world. ISAIAH 2:4 And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore....REV 21:3,4-"death will be no more" Fri, 30 Mar 2012 01:18:08 -0700 Henry Pinkard on February 23, 2012 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/dion-m-whitley/#c70133 https://projects.latimes.com/wardead/name/dion-m-whitley/#c70133 Love you and miss you brother Dion!
